Clan Labs
A clandestine drug lab is a place where illegal drugs are
produced or manufactured. These labs involve the use of toxic and
volatile chemicals, and in the case of marijuana, require the use of
high voltage electricity, and can produce toxic moulds. All of these
labs have the potential to cause fire and explosion, and are of
great danger to law enforcement, emergency services, utility
personnel, and to the people in the communities where they
exist.
They can exist anywhere, in places such as remote as rural
farming communities, to high-rise apartment buildings in densely
populated cities. They produce such drugs as methamphetamine,
ecstasy, GHB (“the date rape drug”), PCP (angel dust), and LSD
(acid).
For every pound of illegal narcotic that is produced in these
labs, 6 to 8 pounds of waste is created. This waste is
disposed through plumbing drains and even buried in the soil.
These buildings pose an immediate health threat to occupants and
surrounding buildings.
So long as these labs exist, their safe detection and
removal will result in safer communities, and will rely on properly
trained professionals to make it happen.
